Stencil

Dear Owen,
This past weekend, I finally got around to a project that I have wanted to do since the fourth month of my pregnancy. And even though it's almost the fourth month of your life, I was determined to finish it. The message is very simple and profound. Hopefully someday you will be able to understand it's true meaning. We want to raise you with courage, conviction, and compassion for others. To do what's right. With all your might. I love you.

Love,
Mom

Remember Me?

Dear Owen,
Sweet fancy Moses, what a gawd-awful blogger I've been. The holidays and New Year were a whirlwind both in the lead up and the wind down. I've kept meaning to sit down to write you a letter for what seems like ages, but I just never found the time. I don't even have a good excuse. I have been reading other blogs and on Facebook, so I do feel somewhat up-to-date with what's going on out there in the blogosphere.
On the home front, our routine is pretty much solidified now. Solidified into basically not being much of a routine at all. We've got the whole bedtime thing down pat - 6:00 PM bath time, 6:30 feeding PM, and 7:00 PM tucked into bed. At that point, you are out for the night. But daytime is another story. We (Mommy, Daddy, and Nanny Aimee) try to get you down for naps, really we do. But you just don't nap well or consistently. Some days you'll get maybe two hours in. Other days (most days) you get twenty minutes here and there, but nothing substantial to speak of. I can't really complain though. You sleep about twelve hours almost every night of the week. We're very, VERY lucky . I guess it's my fault that you're not a great napper. I am desperate to get into a routine. We're always filling our days in different ways so you never seem to have the same day twice. Some days I stay home all day, some days we are out running errands, visiting friends, or have family things going on. I think all that variation really confuses your little "internal clock" so you just kinda ended up napping when you nap. If you nap at all. So I am turning this problem over to my experienced fellow mama bloggers out there. Any sage napping wisdom or daytime routine advice for us?
I love you,
Mom

Three Months

Dear Owen,
Today you are three months old. I seriously can't believe it, three whole months have gone by. This month has been very exciting for us since you are really starting to develop your personality. You smile, wiggle, bicycle your arms and legs, are starting to use your voice, and are sleeping solidly through the night. But most importantly, you recognize your Daddy and I. It's seriously cute. And I am not just saying that because I'm your Mom. The past month started off rough since it marked my return to work. Lucky for us, Nanny Aimee is home with you and we are all adjusting to the new schedule. She loves you a whole lot and takes great care of you. It is definitely a relief to me to know that you are in loving capable hands. Please don't misunderstand, I still race to get home to you each day and think about you all day long. Most days I still cry at work, but it is getting easier.
You have grown into quite the little boy this month. We no longer use the swaddle blanket at night which has allowed you to move all over the place. You haven't roll over yet, but we have found you perched on your side quite a bit. I am sure it won't be long before you figure out you can do it! You have also discovered the mobile in your crib and are working on self entertainment. We will probably be starting you on some solid foods over the next month or so. Right now, you eat four bottles of 7 Oz's a day and feel like you are gaining weight nicely. We don't go back to Doctor Davis until the middle of February, so that will be your next weigh in. Your Daddy and I keep talking about how fast the past three months have gone by. We can't wait to see what month four holds for us. I love you son.
Love,
Mom

Grandpa's Wedding

Dear Owen,
This past weekend we went to Chicago for your Grandma and Grandpa Wilkin's wedding. It was a small and beautiful ceremony. We left here Friday after work and took a direct flight to Chicago. Luckily it was bottle and bed time for you, so you slept most of the journey. We meet up with Uncle Ross and Aunt Amber at baggage claim. Then we all went to Grandpa's house for some dinner and chit-chat. Then your Daddy and I drove out to your Grandma Lumsden's house to spend the night. On Saturday, we hung around with Grandma and Grandpa Lumsden until it was time for the wedding. Here's a shot of us getting ready to go:

I don't have all the pictures from the wedding yet, but I am sure they will be posted on Uncle Ross's website soon. The ceremony was lovely and I was even honored to do a reading. Once again, it was bottle time for you, so you preoccupied during the service. After the ceremony was the reception. You were passed around for about an hour and then Grandma Lumsden's babysitting service picked you up. It was time for the adults to party! It was fun to see everyone and catch up. Sunday we spent the day out at the Lumsdens relaxing and playing the Wii they got for Christmas. Here's a shot of you having some tummy time during the visit:

Monday Morning, your Daddy and I packed up and headed to the new Mr. and Mrs. Wilkin's house for the day. The flight home was uneventful but you did have a little crying spell on the plane. All in all, you have become quite the seasoned traveler! We had a great time in Chicago and of course it went way too fast. It seems like I daydream about visiting forever and then it goes by in the blink on an eye.
I love you son,

Mom
